I began my real estate career in early 1994. After years of working on the road as a professional musician, I needed to find a new career that would allow me to stay at home but I also needed to feel passionate about what I was doing. Music was a passion and although the the travel was tough and the hours long, it never felt like work to me. Some years earlier, I purchased several acres of land and built a home. I learned alot about residential construction during that time and spent my days working on the house and nights playing a "house band gig" at a local restaurant/bar. My wife opened a childrens clothing store in Austin in the early 80's so we moved to be closer to the store but kept the house as an investment. When the real estate market crashed in Texas in the mid 80's, I saw so many foreclosures that just devasted the families of friends and neighbors. Those were tough times for everyone in Texas and I'm certain that I would have been included in those statistics if it were not for the additional income received from leasing the home I had built. That real estate investment saved my family from financial ruin. Now that's something I can be passionate about! To this very day, I still believe that sound investments in real esate are one of the cornerstones of financial success and I've personally re-invested in the market over and over with no regrets. Yes, there have been challenges and at this writing, the real estate market is in retreat on a national level, however, I still remain excited about the future of these properties. I've been in the business long enough to go through several "cycles" and though the cyclical nature of this industry can present challenges, I firmly believe that almost all real estate investments will pay off as long as the owner can choose when the time is right to sell. If the sale is dictated by circumstances beyond the control of the owner, that's when touble can arise and profitability can suffer. If consumers are careful to not over extend themselves finacially and use a knowledgeable professional, the chances are excellent that they will do well for themselves with their real estate investments. I take my role as a Realtor very seriously and work hard to see that my clients receive excellent service and all the information they need to make good decisions about their future. After all, that's what real estate investing is all about: a better future!
